Remote Typing

The aim of the course is that the student is able to type without looking at either the keys or the screen as well as not using the delete key.

Using FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom as a means of teaching has proved to be both innovative and successful.

However it is dependent on the following:

•   The teacher is able to see the keyboard at all times. Sometimes It may be necessary to see more of the left or right hand side of the keyboard depending on which letter Is being covered. Some sort of a make-shift stand to rest the iPhone/iPad/tablet is required.

•   The teacher will also need to see the screen at times.

•   Touch typing means that the student should not look at the keys and sometimes, in the initial stages of learning not to look at the screen. As the teacher is unable to see the child’s eyes, a parent, guardian or nanny should ideally be present throughout the lesson to ensure that the student is not looking at the keyboard. The latter is not applicable to adults.

•   Handouts for each lesson will be sent by email and these should be printed before the lesson.

•   In order to consolidate on accuracy and increase speed it is essential that a minimum of 15 minutes practice is carried out on a daily basis.

•   One other important point is that the student is sitting at a desk whereby he/she is able to keep their wrists slightly off the keyboard and arms should be in an “L” position. In other words the knuckles, wrists and elbows are in a straight line.

•   The course is 10 hours in length and the cost is as shown under the Course fees section.
